Highlands Squash Club General Meeting

 Thursday June 14 2007

 

Attendance – Glen Carter, Don Gage, Gerry Moraal , Jim Andrews

 

  1. Minutes of Executive Meeting of Thursday April 5, 2007 were presented for approval.

      Moved by Don Gage   Seconded by Glen Carter

 

  1. House league on Thursdays is continuing until June 28th and will resume in September. Members can access the key at Jug City and play at their convenience.

 

  1. Don Gage continues to oversee the data base and has added a few new names recently. The club newsletter was sent out on May 31. Glen thanked Don for his efforts with the database and the newsletter.

 

  1. Glen and Don attended the Dysart Council meeting on May 14 and convinced Council to forgive the outstanding debts. The pre-mail to council is on the club website. Glen provided a financial report with a bank balance of $902.23. There are no outstanding bills. Two new members have joined in the last two weeks.

 

  1. The club has received grants of $2000.00 from HCDC to assist with renovations, particularly roof repair and heating and cooling.

 

  1. The Club has received a commitment of a donation from Benjamin Moore of 11 gallons of primer and paint to repaint the courts. Thanks to Brad Sales at Cordell Interiors for his assistance.

 

  1. The Squash Club now has a website. Thanks to Mark Coles of First Page SEO for agreeing to host our website for the first year. And thanks to Don Gage for acting as webmaster. See www.highlands-squash-club.com .

 

  1. Jug City has agreed to hold a squash club door key. Just leave your membership card, sign in, and take the key to the club  and open the door. Be sure to return the key to Jug City at the end of your game and retrieve your membership card.

 

  1. Gerry Moraal met with contractor Rod Thurston to discuss a quote for various facility improvements. Rod will provide quotes for several possible options. Rod also offered some in-kind labour to make some improvements.

 

  1. We are endeavouring to get 2 individual quotes ( to submit to the Trillium Foundation by June 30) for replacement of the heating/ventilating systems. Jerry Walker has suggested a propane HVAC unit. Reg McCormick prefers an oil fired furnace system.

 

  1. Our incorporation information will be updated. Jim Andrews will acquire names and addresses of the new Board of Directors.

 

  1. Gerry M. proposed nominations of the slate of the new Board of Directors listed in the recent newsletter sent to all members.

           Seconded – Jim Andrews   Carried.

 

  1. Don G. and Glen carter have been communicating with the Curling Club executive to ensure a co-operative relationship exists.
  2. Thanks to Chris Youngdale of Vista Signs for creating and installing the new club signage.

 

 

      Election of Executive:

      Nominations were:

      President – Glen Carter

      Vice President – Gerry Moraal

      Secretary – Jim Andrews

      Treasurer – Don Gage

      This slate of officers was acclaimed.

 

      Next meeting – July 5th , 2007 7:00pm at the Squash Club.
